Sector: water-filtration

Market Overview: The Centers for Disease Control claims that public water utilities in the United States deliver safe and reliable drinking water and are among the best of the world’s developed nations. However, the Environmental Protection Agency revealed in 2022 that 27 percent of public water systems had violated at least one drinking water standard, indicating that more still needs to be done to improve the nation's water supply, especially for those who are served by aging infrastructure.

These growing concerns about water quality, domestically and globally, have led to increased demand for water filtration systems worldwide. A consumer survey by Aquasana found that in 2023, 91% of people reported that they use a filter, which has risen to 25% since 2020. Additionally, more awareness about bottled water's negative health and environmental impacts is slowing sales while boosting the market for water purifiers. According to the same survey, the number of Americans who believe that bottled water is the ideal source of clean drinking water dropped from 41% in 2019 and 2020 to only 20% in 2023 (a decrease of 51%).

According to Precedence Research, the global water purifier market size accounted for USD 26.42 billion in 2022, and it is projected to hit around USD 63.99 billion by 2032, growing at a noteworthy CAGR of 9.30% during the forecast period 2023 to 2032. The market in 2022 was dominated by reverse osmosis systems (44%), followed by activated carbon (31%) and UV purifiers (25%).

Building Clean works to address concerns about water quality by including U.S. and Canadian-based water filtration companies in its manufacturer search tool. It covers nine types of water technologies and systems: pitcher filtration, faucet-mounted/countertop filtration, under sink/in-line filtration, reverse osmosis, whole house filtration, distillation, shower filters, and ultraviolet and commercial units.
